The Nobel Prize That Arrived in a Dream

The Nobel Prize That Arrived in a Dream

Scientist Otto Loewi received a Nobel Prize Winning idea in his sleep.

On the night of Easter Saturday, 1921, a 47-year-old German pharmacologist named Otto Loewi fell asleep with a book on his chest.

His entire field had been stuck on the same question for a generation. When a nerve fires a signal to a muscle — when your brain tells your hand to pick up a coffee cup — how does the message actually get across? Is it electrical? Is it chemical? Half the world's top scientists insisted one answer. The other half insisted the other. Nobody could prove either.

Loewi had been chasing the question for seventeen years without an answer.

Then he had a dream.

In the dream, he saw the entire experiment laid out, step by step. Two frog hearts. Two saline baths. A nerve. Move the fluid from one bath to the other and see what happens. He woke up in the middle of the night, scribbled the instructions on a piece of paper on his nightstand, and went back to sleep.

In the morning, he could not read his own handwriting.

He tried for the whole day. He could not reconstruct it. He could remember that he had dreamt something very important, but the actual experiment had slipped away from him like a name on the tip of his tongue. He went to bed that night devastated.

And then, the dream came back.

The exact same dream. Same frog hearts. Same saline baths. Same procedure. This time Loewi did not write it down. He got up, got dressed, and walked to his laboratory in the middle of the night.

He ran the experiment.

It worked.

He had just proven that nerves communicate chemically — that the brain releases tiny invisible substances that carry information from one cell to another. He had discovered the first neurotransmitter. He gave it the name vagusstoff. We call it acetylcholine today.

Fifteen years later, in 1936, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for that experiment. He is now called the father of modern neuroscience. Literally thousands of medications that work on the nervous system trace their lineage back to what Otto Loewi saw in his sleep on Easter weekend, 1921.

Years later, he was asked the obvious question. Where did the experiment come from? He had been stuck for seventeen years on a solution to what appeared to be a dead end. What changed?

Loewi was completely honest. He said the answer was simply given to him. He didn't think it. He received it.

I want you to sit with that for a second. If you recall, Nikola Tesla said the same thing many years earlier, but was shunned and completely ostracized for saying it.

Otto Loewi did not figure out the answer. He did not deduce it. He did not reason his way to it. He went to sleep with a question, and an answer he had not generated himself arrived inside his own mind, fully formed, ready to run.

He was a credentialed scientist, working in a credentialed field, in front of credentialed peers. He was not a mystic. He was not looking for a spiritual experience. He just had a question, and the answer came from somewhere. Somewhere he couldn't even explain.

This is the part I want to talk about. Where did it come from?‍ ‍

My Theory

Here is what I believe, and what I have written about in both of my books.

Every conscious being on this planet — every human mind that is thinking right now, and every mind that ever was — is part of a single, vast, energetic structure I call the Universal Collective Consciousness. Carl Jung called it the collective unconscious. Tesla called it the core from which all knowledge is drawn. The labels do not matter. The mechanism is what matters.

The mechanism works like this.

Your conscious mind is made of energy. We know this. Science has confirmed that the brain emits measurable electromagnetic activity, and that the body itself broadcasts a frequency. The first law of thermodynamics tells us that energy cannot be created or destroyed — only transferred. So when you have a thought, that thought is something. It has a vibration. It has a frequency. It is energy, and energy isn't nothing.

Every thought you have is deposited into the Universal Collective Consciousness. You are constantly transmitting thoughts and feelings to it. Whether you know it or not. Whether you mean to or not. The fearful thought you had this morning about money — deposited. The kind thought you had about your boss — deposited. The vision you keep replaying of the life you actually want — deposited. All of it goes into the collective.

And here is the part most people miss.

It works in the other direction also.

You are not only broadcasting into the Universal Collective. You can also receive from it, every second of every day. The collective is full of energetic thought forms — energetic patterns left by every mind that has ever contributed to it — and those patterns are floating around you right now. Around you, and through you. In the room you are sitting in. Some of them carry information you need. Some of them carry information someone else needs and you happen to be the antenna picking it up.

This is what happened to Otto Loewi.

The answer to the experiment did not originate inside his skull. It came from the collective field of all consciousness that had ever wrestled with that question — including, possibly, minds no longer in physical form — and was delivered to the one person on Earth who was prepared to receive it and act on it. He was the receiver. The dream was the frequency he had been looking for, and tuned into.

If you have ever had a "random" idea that turned out to be exactly what someone you love needed to hear that day, you have done a smaller version of the same thing. If you have ever known something was wrong with a family member before they called, you have done it. If you have ever solved a problem in the shower that you could not solve at your desk, you have done this.

You were not making it up. You were tuning in.‍ ‍

How to Tap In on Purpose‍ ‍

Otto Loewi was able to do this because he had been obsessed with finding the answer to the question for seventeen years — his receiver was finely tuned to the one frequency that held his answer, and his mind picked it up.

You do not have to wait seventeen years, and you do not have to win a Nobel Prize. You just have to learn how to broadcast and receive on purpose. There are three parts to how to do this.

First, you have to be specific about the frequency. The collective responds to clear signals. A vague longing for "more money" is static. What does that even mean? More than what? It isn't grounded in an emotion of why it's required. That signal shoots out like wet noodles. A clear, emotionally felt picture of the specific outcome you want — and why — is a clean transmission. The emotional connection and attachment to the outcome is what amplifies your outward-bound signal to find its match. The clearer the thought, the cleaner the broadcast.

Second, you have to get quiet enough to receive. This is what meditation is. It's not about relaxation. Not stress relief. Those are nice side effects. The actual function of meditation is to lower the volume of your egoic mind — the relentless internal narrator — long enough for a signal from the collective to come through. Loewi was asleep when his answer came because sleep was likely the only time his analytical mind got out of the way. You can train yourself to do this while awake.

Third, you have to be willing to act on what you receive. The first night, Loewi got the transmission and ignored it. I know he tried to write it down, and perhaps that is why he got a second chance. He almost lost it. Most people lose theirs every day — they receive the nudge, the intuition, the strange clarity, and they explain it away by lunchtime. Do not count on a second transmission. When the answer arrives, get up and walk to the lab — or at least record it somehow so it is there the following day.

This is not magic. It is not woo-woo. It is not even a positive-thinking trick. It is how the structure of consciousness actually works, and the more you understand it, the more your life starts to look like a series of perfectly timed dreams arriving at exactly the right moment.

You are not separate from the source of everything. You never have been. You are woven into it.

If this resonates and you want the actual practice — how to broadcast clearly, how to quiet the egoic mind enough to receive, how to manifest what you are calling in — The Foundation Meditation is in my second book, You Are Still Alive, Now Act Like It.

It explains and walks you through the method.

If you would rather learn Say It Three Ways™ and The Foundation Meditation for manifestation method with me — I have taught it to hundreds of people — or if you just want to talk to someone who has walked the road you are on, my door is open.

The collective is broadcasting right now, are you tuned in?‍ ‍
